I’d heard that more money is being spent on compensating drivers for damage to their cars due to potholes than is spent repairing them which is ludicrous!

Here is an extract taken from the Mail Online news section “Potholes are costing taxpayers more in compensation claims than in repair fees.  Ambulance-chasing lawyers squeezed £53million out of town halls last year over complaints from drivers who claimed that their cars had been damaged by sub-standard roads.  But only £52.3million was spent on fixing holes in the road.  Almost a million extra potholes could have been repaired with the compensation money, council chiefs said today.  That equates to more than a quarter of the estimated 3.5million potholes.  The Local Government Association, which represents 466 councils in England and Wales, estimated that staff also spent 40,801 days dealing with the claims.”
